LVAG News December 14, 2023

Hello Members

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays

A very Merry Holiday greeting to all our members, no matter what form their holiday celebration may take.

LVAG SUMMARY OF 2023

As 2023 draws to a close, I would like to thank all the Members and Directors who have made 2023 a very good (most of the time) year.

January was the start of demolition and repair. The school building and maintenance shed next door were demolished, leaving our building more visible to the public. The Arts Center was closed the month of January as we repainted and cleaned the facility. Dan Kennedy built a sound muffling structure around the furnace in the Rea room, which was a big help when the furnace was at its loudest in cold weather.

Weather permitting, the front windows of the Center were painted with abstract designs with the help of John K. Victor, Judy D. Smith, Ken Madden, Colleen Van Steen, Mat Washburn, and me. The remainder of the windows will be painted in 2024.

Exhibits, classes, and workshops resumed in February and continued without interruption until September when a major break in the sewer system was encountered. The City was eventually able to curtail a contractor to fix the problem, but not until November. Porta-Potties were installed, but several classes had to be canceled, along with our annual picnic and Halloween party. Thanks to the city for taking care of this matter; we are now good to go.

In February, we were blindsided when our Director of Communications, Lori Powel, was sidelined with a stroke. While she continues to recover, George Peyton has stepped in to help with the Website and Internet. The WI-Fi was officially installed at the Center in May. With the internet availability, it is an added incentive for volunteers to docent when the Center is open.

Several trips to Art Galleries were made on the third Sunday, one of which was to the CMA for the Maurice Sendeck exhibit. Another was to Troy Hayner’s Student show Troy Oh.

I would like to thank Liz Lassel for the beautiful quilt window coverings she made and donated in the Rea room and for procuring several Grants from the Ohio Arts Council for various projects, one of which was the Storytelling grant where Pam Stanforth was able to teach students to perform the craft of Storytelling. Thank you also to Pam for Developing and printing policies for the Center while manning the Art Cart and Volunteer programs.

In the Spring, we joined the Chamber of Commerce with the encouragement of Pamala Wurster to become more visible to the community. This fall, Pam Stanforth headed a committee to produce 32 Centerpieces and 32 canvases 6×6 by LVAG members to be auctioned off at their Annual Bonanza Event. In return, the LVAG received a valuable amount of advertising and funding.

The New Officers and Directors for 2024 will be Mat Washburn Pres., Sandy Fox Vice Pres., Colleen Van Steen Sec., Liz Lassel Tres., Directors George Peyton, Dan Kennedy, and Marci Darlington.

We are looking for 2024 to be a very good year. Class and Show schedules will be available in January.

Thank you for being members of this fine organization.

Outgoing president Sandy Fox
